Life at the Society

There’s more to fishing than catching fish

Members can be as connected as they like through our intranet, with its forum, news, events calendar, library, museum, special-interest groups, beat booking system and real-time fishing reports. And there’s so much more

The solitude of a wild trout river

Members who love to lose themselves in the depths of chalk stream country can still get up-to-date fishing feedback from our online LogBook system

The camaraderie of the Society

The Society began life as a “fellowship” and remains a close-knit community where members fish, learn more about fishing and enjoy the company of other fishers
You could fish all season without seeing another soul, but the Rod Room is the place to find good company if you drop round at lunchtime in the season. We can always find another chair…
Mayfly Supper

Events & gatherings

Social events include the Mayfly Supper, Summer Lunch Parties by the Avon and a London dinner at the Flyfishers’ Club
Chalk Stream Tactics

Tutorials & learning

Trout, grayling and pike fishing tutorials, invertebrate sampling workshops, river restoration site visits plus two main meetings every year – with presentations by experts, lively debate and a convivial lunch
Photographic Group

Special-interest groups

Using the intranet and WhatsApp, the groups get together to chase carp, talk split-cane rods and fly-tying, and take the photographs that illustrate our website and publications

A Society of shared knowledge

There are hundreds of books in the Rod Room and an online library with presentations made at our meetings, among much else. Our twice-yearly Journal was first published in 1974, and our members are a great source of knowledge – whatever the fishing question there’s almost certainly a member who can answer it

If you’re interested in joining us

We’re always happy to receive applications to join the Society from people who think about fishing the way we do. To find out more:
